Los Angeles Rams Free Agent Acquisition Deemed One of the Most Team-Friendly Deals

Pro Football Focus’ NFL Salary Cap Analyst, Brad Spielberger rolled out his a series of articles rating and reviewing the litany of free agency moves made over the last two weeks. In one such article, Most player-friendly, team-friendly contracts of 2024 NFL free agency, Spielberger labeled the Los Angeles Rams signing of safety, Kamren Curl as one of the five most team-friendly deals of this year’s free agent signings.

Team friendly, of course, means the team got a good player for a less than expected pay grade.

What the Los Angeles Rams Got in Kamren Curl and What It Cost Them

The Rams took advantage of a safety market that took a downturn as several big-name veterans were cut from several teams around the league. As Spielberger puts it, “Curl probably got dinged in the market not only because the safety market is always a gauntlet unless you’re a clear top player at the position.”

Contract details have yet to emerge, but early reporting says it’s a two-year deal, worth up to $13 million. This should result in a cap hit in the neighborhood of $4 million

Kurl is no slouch though. Despite a lack of counting stats, Curl has been reliable and one of the most versatile safeties in the game. He played He will inject some much-needed size and physicality into the Rams defense. With that big hitting style, the Rams could up his usage as a pass rusher more than he did in Washington.

As Spielberger, puts it, “Over the past four seasons, Curl’s 85 defensive stops are the third most among all safeties. He is willing to get downhill and make plays at or near the line of scrimmage in addition to his coverage responsibilities, and the Los Angeles Rams got a very well-rounded young player on a great value deal.”
