Photo shows just how close Kyle Larson, Chris Buescher were in Kansas finish

A photo provided by NASCAR shows just how close Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher were to each other during their photo finish at the end of the AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas on Sunday night.

The race went into overtime, and Larson was declared the winner after officials reviewed photos that were taken as the cars crossed the finish line. Larson’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet was said to have finished just 0.001 seconds ahead of Chris Buescher’s No. 17 RFK Racing Ford for the win.

The race produced the closest finish in Cup Series history.

Even Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr., who finished third and fourth in the race respectively, nearly caught Larson.

The result was so close because the race was restarted in overtime, which kept many of the drivers in the front bunched together. They were even three-wide at first after the restart before Buescher and Larson pulled ahead to go side-by-side.

The win was Larson’s second of the season and marked the sixth time this year that he has finished in the top five of a Cup Series race.

The finish at Kansas was reminiscent of the way February’s Cup Series race in Atlanta ended.
